Peru meets Rothko

Posted December 3, 2014 @ 11:33am | by Melanie

I'm keen on geometrics, and I love Mark Rothko's paintings. Now this has it's own Peruvian Minnesota personality and I don't know that Mark from NH was thinking Rothko when he found ArtAndes on line. I do think he really picked out a great piece for his New England decor.
Peru's pre-Columbian design history is rich in geometrics, from the Nazca/Paracas culture through the Inca empire. My fascination for geometrics started in Peru in the mid-eighties, until then I was rather design unaware. The museums in Peru are some of the best in the world, the desert conditions preserved woven treasures and ceramics in new condition. One could just do a food and museum tour of Lima and be overwhelmed by it's rich diversity!
